Niko was abandoned as an infant on the docks of Limsa Lominsa with nothing but a small ragged blanket and a note pinned to her tunic. Her mothers Syhrthota and Ingri, two notorious pirate queens, found her and weren’t initially going to keep her. They were pirates, and their lives were chaotic most of the time, but it was while Syhrthota was holding her that Niko gripped her pinky finger in her tiny baby hands that they realized that they weren’t going to abandon Niko.

So the pirate queens of Limsa gained an heir.

One can find Niko trawling the docks of Limsa Lominsa doing exactly what her moms generally did—gather information and make sure things ran smoothly. In between information brokering and being commissioned for adventuring, Niko can be found in high places around Eorzea daydreaming and writing the next big ditty or next big love sonnet for those who ask her to.

And then, on her 23 nameday, she became the Warrior of Light.
